  • Passed one of Arizona’s first Equal Pay ordinances to guarantee women can’t be paid less than men for equal work
  • First city in Arizona whose council and voters both passed an anti-discrimination ordinance protecting ALL Tempeans.
  • First City in Arizona to become a Dementia Friendly City
  • Created a Family Justice and Veterans Committee
  • Developed “Valor on 8th”, an affordable housing community for women and veterans
  • Created the Tempe Works Program to assist individuals who are homeless to get jobs with the city
  • Created Arts Master Plan and Passed an Arts Tax to fund the plan

Increasing Economic Opportunities

  • Since 2012, we have attracted 32,500 new jobs and $2.6 Billion from the private sector
  • Created the Innovation District with over 1 million square feet of lab and research space, attracting the innovative, high-wage jobs of the future
  • Helped develop the Marina Heights State Farm project
  • Led the effort to restore the historic Hayden House, which will be the cornerstone of a new 250,000+ square foot mixed-use development

A Higher Quality of Life

  • Championed Tempe’s new streetcar project, which will benefit businesses, residents, and visitors for generations to come
  • Added bike paths through our city
  • Expanded Orbit shuttle routes in South Tempe
  • Created an all- inclusive playground index for our parks to ensure access for everyone
  • Created character areas throughout the city and asked for resident input to decide how they are developed

Sustainability For Our Future

  • Created the Sustainability Commission to help plan for the effects of climate change
  • Created the new Sustainability Manager position to implement new strategies
  • Pledged to be carbon neutral by 2050 with 100% of electricity coming from renewables by 2035
